My favorite thing about this fall is new beginnings. I just started graduate school so I am excited what this first semester will hold. It is a new chapter. In general, I love the cooler weather of the fall. There is something that is so beautiful about the feeling in the air during the fall, you can feel it coming. Fall is my favorite time of year, especially when you are in a part of the country that the leaves are amazingly beautiful.

Love the necklace and I love the pic of the boys from the previous post at the candy store...
Fall is my favorite season hands down, I have a hard time narrowing down my favorite thing because it is so many things combined, the cool crisp morning isn't the same without the smell of the leaves.
So I'll go for unique. The sound of Jerry Allen calling the UO Ducks football games. He has been doing it for as long as I can remember and the sound instantly feels like fall and football. GO DUCKS!

I love fall! The brisk change of the weather, the fresh apples (hello avila valley barn!), the smell of smoke from burning leaves or fireplaces getting started--give it all to me! It also feels like the perfect time for "nesting". I make more hearty meals, read inside more, and start to decorate my house for the seasons. Fall also reminds me that I get to see family soon. That is one of the best parts!

Fall to me means Family. The summer seems so rushed trying to cram so much in (I live in Canada so the warm weather goes fast!). We seem to slow down and enjoy ourselves as a family more in the fall. Organizing the children for school, spending as much time outdoors together before the snow starts to fly, planning for Halloween costumes. Baking family favorite dishes with the seasonal bounty, apples & pumpkins. Enjoying a 26 year tradition with friends to attend a local fall fair followed by a potluck dinner for 60+ plus people. Really stopping to be thankful for all that we have. Enjoying the beauty all around us.

My favorite thing about fall is when the leaves turn colors. It was especially beautiful when I was living in Boston,MA. The trees would grow so tall and cover the roads, so when you went on walks it would feel as if you were walking through a colorful tunnel. I could walk forever looking at the beauty. Those are fond memories.

my favorite part of the fall season is the return of starbucks' pumpkin spice latte! even though it stays unseasonably warm here in texas, sipping on one of these lattes takes me right back to the hills of tennessee. i can feel the crisp breeze and see the beautiful leaves changing already!

My new favorite thing about fall is that my 2 1/2 year old son ( who just started talking a mile a minute) told me the other day that he wanted to be "Woody" from Toy Story for Halloween. This year the holidays will be amazing for us, I can feel it!

LOL--Giving something away is a GREAT way to be inundated with comments, isn't it?

Well, I could probably find a way to wax poetic about changing leaves or the beauty of schoolchildren returning to their houses of learning...but to be honest, my favorite thing about fall is that the heat and humidity start to abate! Aaah, the pleasure of being able to go outside without sweating. That's what I like!

Because I live in Arizona, my favorite part of fall is the cooler weather. Being outside without dying of heat.

Fall has always been my favorite season. There is an ambience about fall that is just intoxicating. Just as I am getting restless with the heat of the summer, fall comes and brings a much needed change. The cool crisp weather and pulling on a cozy sweater for the first time, the way the aspen trees turn gold and almost sparkle here in Colorado, a warm cup of apple cider, rosy cheeked children playing in the piles of leaves, pumpkins adorning all of the front porches, the sound of football games in the background on the weekends, and a day to give thanks for family, friends, and all of our blessings. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to reflect on all of these "litte things".

Fall for me is the smell of chimney smoke and a slight chill in the air. The promise of the holiday's coming as well..... so much excitement surrounds our children during this time! I love it!

Fall just smells different than the other seasons. It's a scent I can't quite put my finger on, but I love it! My dd asked me the other day when it was a beautiful, although unseasonable, 63 degrees, "Mom, do you smell the fall?"

What a beautiful necklace! My favorite things about fall are the crisp air, the smell of burning leaves, going to the pumpkin patch, and sitting by firepits with family and friends.

I love... new season, new beginnings. Summer is gone, and fall is sort of a start over. How the wind blows and it has that bite in it, I love the first frost, pumpkins turning orange, and that excitement leading up to Halloween.

Unfortunately, I have a daughter who has a compromised immune system so it also means germs and a winter of being home bound. I'm trying only to concentrate on the good things this year!

Every fall my mother goes on an annual three week business trip that is always out of the country. For three weeks she is gone and I am completely unable to contact her...no emails, no phone calls, no visits. For three weeks I don't hear her voice. My favorite thing about fall is the exact moment that I walk into my parent's home, the third week of September every year, and HUG my mom! I'm 38 years old and my mother's hugs still warm my heart.

I love the chill in the air and the change of wardrobe and foods.

I love seeing frost ice the ground and wearing a jacket, yet just a few hours later seeing the green grass again and having to change into short sleeves.

I love the way the fields turn golden and the corn stalks make their way from the field to front porches to stand alongside a strawbale and few pumpkins.

I love harvesting all of the produce from the garden and bottling it so as to preserve as much of summer as I can.

In short, I love everything about autumn!

Fall is my favorite season for so many reasons. When I was small much of it had to do with the return of cooler weather and the return to school. As I've grown older it is the fact that fall reminds us of the briefness and wonder of life with a clarity that is startling.

Crisp blue skies and breezes with a sharp edge cool down the dusty dry heat of summer and gentle the drought colored tan of burnt grass to a faded tan that is restful and combines beautifully with the leaves that begin to turn yellow, red, orange, and even bronze.

The incessant song of crickets, which E.B. White rights about so eloquently in Charlotte's Web, is a beautiful and haunting tribute to the over-zealous fertility of summer and reminds us that soon it will freeze and the leaves will drop from the trees and we will be left with the etchings of branches against the sky.

The smell of decaying leaves on wet rainy days drifts on chance drafts and breezes and freshens the air with the spiciness of cinnamon.

On wet rainy days the earth begins absorbing resources to save until spring. I love the chill winds on those rainy days and the quietness of winter that begins to invade the outdoors as people begin to spend more time inside, allowing those who like to be outside the space to feel wildness again even if they do live in the suburbs.

Fall gives me the chance to wear jeans, and sweaters, and socks with sturdy shoes. Allows me to feel snug and to hide my inhibitions under clothes.

The wedges of geese flying over calling out to each other always haunt me with their lonely wildness. The drifts of blackbirds gathered under trees, in trees, on wires that swirl up like leaves on a gust of wind thrill me.

There is so much in the turning of fall into winter that calls to the soul. What isn't there to like.

Fall seems relaxed and crisp and leisurely after the blazing heat of summer. I can fling open the windows or head out for a lovely afternoon walk. I can enjoy the smells of pumpkins and apples and spices. I can celebrate the many fall birthdays in our family, including my own, and look forward to my favorite holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Megan said...

Fall always makes me think of apple picking. Every year growing up my family would all bundle up and head out to a nearby apple orchard. We'd laugh and climb trees and enjoy the fresh fall air. Apple cider, apple pie, apple donuts, apple crisps, apple dumplings. These things are fall to me. I've continued the tradition with my own family and can't wait to get out to the orchard this year.

The thing I like most about fall is being able to wear nice, warm sweatshirts and fleece. That, and enjoying the colors of the season and wishing I could capture them in my card making.

Kristy V said...

Ok...so here is the thing, I know lots of people say their favorite thing about fall is the changing of the leaves. And it is also mine. But, it goes deeper than the leaves. The first year I moved to Indiana from New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina, I was driving down the street ( a few weeks after the move) and put the car into a complete stop. There is a tree on this one local street that is huge. The color is like the color of fire with its mix of reds, oranges, and yellows. When I looked at it I knew that there had to be a God, because only he could make something so stunningly perfect and beautiful. It blooms every year and every year I have to stop. I see it every morning on the way to work and it just makes me smile. Living in New Orleans for 28 years and never experiencing fall, I now know what I have been missing out on. I also experienced my first real "you pick" pumpkin patch and had my first taste of apple cider. I have to say, I am a much nicer person during the fall season! God Bless!

My birthday is in October, so I loved fall for many years. Then, in college, I had a run of "bad autumns" = emotional times, sickness, my Mom nearly dying - all these things put a damper on my birthday season for a while. Then, in 2000, we adopted our oldest, and fall was wonderful again!! A day later, I found out I was pregnant with our first biological baby. Then, my birthday followed the next day. with those happy memories to look back on, I love fall again!!

Hi Lisa, First let me say that I recenty moved to Morro and found yor blog, and visit daily. Your craft is comforting, to say the least.
Now, about fall. I love fall because my 2 of my children (of 4), less one this february were born in fall.I adore the sounds, the scent, the sites, and I feel a rebirth of wonder each and every fall. My youngest boys thrilled me daily for many years, and still do.
BUT
September 9th will mark the birthday of my third born James. His deathday , I'm certain will be equally as difficult, but I still love fall. The heart of life, is still good. But I miss my baby terribly. Shortly after his death, a bird came in through the sliding glass door. My husband called to me and I came to find a little bird, staring me right in the eye. I said hello, hoping it was James spirit because he would know to come to me in the form a bird, which I love. I dont know where he is. I dont know why, or what to think. But I am still breathing nearly 7 months later, and I am afraid, and I am hopeful, and I am still alive.

And since we are in Texas, the hope of a/an (occasional) cool breeze! When hubby & I dated, I would always feel the breeze, ask him what that meant and tell him, "Christmas is coming!". Now, he does it since I get caught up in the school/kids stuff!

Fall is my favorite season. Maybe because the cooler weather, the beautiful colors, back to school, Halloween, football...I suppose the list could go on and on. But I believe lately it is because 2 of my children were born in the fall. Taylor came first. Healthy and beautiful. Then Ryan. Beautiful but not healthy. Born in October as the leaves were changing so was my life and it will never be the same. Ryan was a preemie and has cystic fibrosis and spent 3 seasons in the hospital. Winter brought more surgeries and a fight for life. Spring found a wonderful homecoming. Summer found new challenges. Then came fall once again and brings Ryan’s first birthday. He made it through the year that the doctors didn't think he would.

The night before Ryan was born; Taylor and I sat in the nursery with all the baby things that we had just gotten out of the attic that day. It was a cool Georgia night and Daddy had a softball game to go to. Me and Taylor stayed home. I can still smell the fresh air. That was the last night before the storm. I sometimes refer to it as our time of innocence. We had no idea what tomorrow would bring. I use to crave that night. I will never forget how it felt and smelled.

Fall is my favorite because Ryan is another year older so we beat cf one more year!

playing hooky, the sound (and smell) of falling leaves, the first sip of tea, pumpkin picking, retreating in front of a fire or under a cozy blanket and reading / writing / inspiring, reading the first page of a book; then writing about it, the colours!, chunky cardigans, knitting outside on a cool day as the sun sets, the sounds of kids walking to the bus stop on school days, watching nature hibernate before your very eyes - and most importantly, the presence of family during the holidays. the hussle-bussle to prep, but beautiful, memorable family dinners. :)

stay well! xo

My favorite thing about fall is when my little students first realize that they are really learning to read and that they can sound out words. Its so rare that they feel pride academically, they just know they are different but haven't figured out why yet.

The fall air so crisp,
The leaves that glow with brilliance,
The rustle under your feet,
The glow of the sun,
The smell of autumn,
The feeling of peace,
The tease of winter in the air,
The hope of things soon to come,
Fall fills me with anitcipation. Energy. Joy. How can I pick just one? Autumn is the season I adore.

First of all, wanted to send you and your family love and light, especially with the passing of a close family member. It can be rough, and we all need all the love we can get in this world. (: My fav. thing about fall? Ooh, that's tough...Fall/Autumn is my very favourite season. I guess I would have to say though...one of my top fav. things is the way the light changes this time of year...the sunlight becomes softer, warmer, more diffuse...making everything it illuminates just glow with this magical, golden, otherworldly, softly sparkling light, especially around twilight. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Fall is - saturday soccer games at three different fields at the same time for my 5 kids....
Apple pie cooking in the oven, the smell of a fall spice candle on your counter, the low overhead clouds and the brisk fall morning, where you need a sweater just for a little while...
The leaves whisking behind the car as you drive to and from your errands...the gorgeous colors of the beautful fall landscape our Lord created - just for us to bask in His beauty....
And now me driving back and forth to classes to get my Nursing degree...Life is Good

My favourite thing about fall is that the tourists go away. I live in a small beach town, so now it's getting quiet again, parking is easy to find, and there is no one at the beach when we want to take our dog for a walk at night. It's just slowing down. It's a shame we have to move soon.

This year - after taking a year's leave of absence - I am returning to the classroom ... so I think that will be my favorite thing about fall :) I can't believe how much I missed teaching and learning right along with my fifth graders! Also new this year is our backyard firepit; we've already enjoyed several s'more evenings with neighbors, an activity I can see continuing right through the fall :) Hip, hip, hooray ... Autumn is here!

My absolute favorite thing about fall is oversized sweatshirts & pj pants with a mug of hot cider, then
lounging on the couch with my hubby, kids in their jammies, their blankets spread out on the living room floor with toys galore all over it while my husband and I look on and smile & laugh watching them until our cheeks hurt. You can't add anymore love at that moment.

My favorite thing about fall is remembering to slow down and enjoy time as a family. Baking pumpkin muffins, raking leaves, hanging the wreath on the front door and knowing that Santa will be coming soon - and of course being thankful for all that we have and remembering to always give to others!

Hi Lisa. What I love most about fall is that I will be able to shoot(if I am lucky) some beautiful macro photos of the Maple leaves. I am the proud owner of two of your necklaces. Hugs,

I can't believe there are so many comments? But then again I can't believe this is such a beautiful necklace--I've gotta have it! Where to begin with my favorite things about fall...mostly, the birthday of my miraculous son who I thought would never join our family. Then there is those crisp mornings, the leaves that are so beautiful they make you want to cry, and the turning to home after spending so many summer hours out and about. Kind of like returning home to your cozy nest.

My absolute favorite part of fall is the crisp smell. The leaves fall and turn beautiful colors and the wind blows with a mild breeze that is so comforting and calm. Its like the simple warning before the mass snow to come in the following months for Chicago. The kids run and play in the leaves, so free. The fall colors and halloween decorations. . Its been my husbands and mine favorite season since as long as we both can recall. It brings me back to when we first starting dating and would come home from a amazing night out to walk his puppy. Oh the sweet memories of firts and everlasting love....

what don't i love about the fall?
the warm tones, comfort foods, apple desserts, pumpkin bread, fall leaves blowing in the streets and the cooler evening breeze. i love dressing our home with autumn colors - candles, blankets, pumpkins, and photos of halloweens past.
it's the oncoming of another season in our lives just like the circle of life. it's a beautiful transition from a warm, vibrant colored summer into a cooler, muted toned season that reminds us to gather and prepare for the coming of winter.
it's a time for reflection and giving thanks for our great abundance of blessings!

I love the newness and hope that fall brings. New fall clothes and notebooks and crayons that haven't been broken yet. Sometimes I feel like fall is even better than new years as a time to rethink my life and restart good habits. Everything is crisp and clean and the air, oh the smell of the clean air with all the windows open! love it. dream about it. fall.

I love the fall because my birthday is Oct. 30th, and I love to be alive. I am so blessed to live where I do for another year and not have a birthday on Oct. 31st. I love the way the sun shines with an orangish hue but is not as bright as summer. Finally, I love the memory of the new school year. My daughter has turned into a lovely, young lady and has started Jr. High. I love new beginnings.

Here's a quote from my blog about my favorite Fall things!

"My birthday is in the Fall, when the crisp leaves of our liquid amber trees are shades of orange and red and yellow. The air is crisp and fresh, the days are short, and my hand knit scarves find a permanent home around my grateful neck. Some of these autumn days are enticing and my backless Mary Jane's seem to have an extra little spring in their step. Other days seem a bit ominous, with foreboding clouds lurking in a gray, dimly lit sky.

I have a true affection for Fall days of all kinds." :)
