the real reason

we went to santa barbara was to take david to a new specialist. one of david's biggest challenges is with his GI (gastro-intestinal) system. He has reflux and at three months of age he a malrotation (a twist or block) of the intestine repaired. Since there are no pediatric GI doctors in our area, we have been using our pediatrician as a sounding board. Although he is great, I felt like we needed to build a relationship with a specialist who can follow David and get to know him. I really liked the doctor. He took a lot of time to get to know David and asked a lot of questions. He has seen children with the same syndrome which is nice. He had a couple of great suggestions, too. So it a very profitable trip!
And letting the kids be together made it even better!

I am working on a couple silk knot necklaces that will be ready in the next week or so! Yay!!

You're such a good mom.

My daughter has a bajillion medical specialists (well, 8, but it feels like a lot!), and I am forever thankful for doctors who know their stuff, but have a loving and caring bedside manner to boot. If I can look forward to, instead of dread, a doctor's appointment, I consider that a huge blessing! It sounds like you've found that for your David (+you!), and I'm so glad for you.

...that you now have an extra excuse to take a day trip to Santa Barbara is a bonus :-) !

I am so so glad you guys found a specialist you love. We are leaving out in the morning for an 8 hour drive to San Antonio to meet with a new slew of specialists for my Abbi. Its always nerve wracking, especially wondering what they will be like and what they will say / suggest. I hope our experience is as positive as it sounds like yours was! *hugs* from one SN mama to another. :)

I also wanted to let you know about a giveaway going on over at the blog. If you have a chance swing on by. It lasts until midnight on Thursday. :)

I'm glad you guys were able to find a good pediatric GI specialist. It's nice when you find a doc who is willing to listen and get to know your child. We have one that we love, but since we live in such a rural area, we must travel more than an hour each way to see him. Previously we had seen a pediatric GI who was dismissive almost to the point of rudeness. Needless to say we did not return after the first visit with him.

I am so fortunate to live in So Cal. and have access to some amazing specialists for my daughter. Having lived in Santa Barbara myself, I know they have an excellent Children's Hospital there (Cottage) and Samsum Clinic is also there which is world reknown. And, it s agreat excuse to get to SB! ;)

I'm glad the experience was a positive one for David!
