what's your word?

kristi from pink everything just did a great post on her 'word of the year'. the idea behind this, is to choose a meaningful word for yourself that will be your word for the next year. she had a necklace made so she can be reminded of her word everyday. i think my word for 2008 might be 'brave'. i want to push myself out of my comfort zone and do things that intimidate me. kristi and i have teamed up to do a giveaway, too! go check it out!

what could your word for 2008 be?

This is a great idea, and I love your jewellry. I'm going to have to think of a word. It's powerful.

I love that idea!!! I think my word would be breathe. I tend to get stressed out easily. I just have to slow down and breathe...take everything one day at a time.

This is a great idea, I love these necklaces. My word for this year is love, and I'm still working on it so I haven't even started thinking about a word for next year yet.

I just left a comment over at Kristi's blog. I love your necklaces. I have seen your blog at several blogs I visit everyday!! You are so talented!!

My word for the year is Strength!

Our house flooded back in May when all of Missouri was under water. I have been slowly fixing everthing so we can get our lives back in order. I have been staining wood, pulling nails out of baseboards, using a nail gun to put the baseboards back up. I had to pull the wet pad up then replace it with new pad. (all by myself)

Unloading our garage with all of our basement furniture and boxes back to our redone basement. It has been a trying few months.

Especially since insurance did not cover any of this. I feel like I have needed strength to get this accomplished. I also feel that God has given me strength for me and my family!

What a great giveaway you and Kristi are having!!!

My word would be (Respire) another word for breathe but means INHALE/EXHALE. I need to during my stress, just sit and breathe. My son will be having a feeding tube place next month and I am trying to cope through it with YOGA and BREATHING techniques through a life coach. Tracy

Your jewelry is beautiful!! My word this year was "remember" I actually did a post about it about 6 months ago. What a fun idea about the contest.

i think my word would be -soar.
i have been thinking a lot this year on the scripture from isaiah 40:28-31
"Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,

and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary,
and young increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
(and i have)
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
they will SOAR on wings like eagles;
They will walk and not grow weary,
they will walk and not grow faint."

I have spent much of this year being weary, but I am learning to "hope in the Lord." I am waiting to "soar on wings like eagles."

waiting for lift off!

My word for this year is actually two words "healing" and "courage". It has taken a lot of courage to do the things I've needed to do for healing, both physically and mentally.

I'm going to have to think of a word for next year...

My word would be PATIENCE. With a 2 1/2 year old and 9 month old, my patience tends to run a little thin at times. I pray for an extra helping of it nightly!

Hi Lisa

My word is SAUDADE.

"Saudade" is one of those words that are impossible to describe or translate in other language other than it's "mother" language, PORTUGUESE.

It means missing someone or something, but missing not in a sad way, but in a happy and nostalgic way.Missing a dream you had when you were a kid, or missing the smell of something that reminded you of a good feeling or person.

After living away from my home country for over 3 years, I miss so many things and sometimes these special memories come to my mind in a second and I really really miss them. I can live without them and it doesn't hurt that I can't have them, I just hold on to these memories and " EU SINTO SAUDADE".

That would be my word for 2008 since it is one of the most beautiful words in Portuguese.

I love your art !

I love ths concept! Such a good way to reflect on your personal goals. My word for the year is change. In the last month or two I have been very proactive in changing things in myself. I went back to school full time and now both of my girls are in school. This change has been challenging in so many areas and I can only hope that I will learn from this and grow to be a better me:)

I've been memorizing prov 31 about the virtuous woman and I've been thinking about the hebrew transliteration which comes out as 'ishshah (woman) chayil. Since Chayil can mean strength, might, efficiency or ability that would be my word/ goal for 2008.

My word for all time is passion, I want to live my life and work passionately on those things that matter - next year specifically, I think I would say deliberate - not being half hazard in what I do with my time and energy.

diligence. first i was going to say, "breathe" to remind myself to breathe and relax and not be anxious. but i'd really like to be more diligent.

I have a dear friend who has had a terrible year... After her husband took a job out of town she finds out he was having an affair(they have 3 young children)and living a financial lie. All the $ she thought they had they didn't, and before she knew it her house was foreclosed and her car reposessed. After a long summer with no break from her kids(the dad basically never sees his kids) she takes a 2 week vacation with her parents and siblings to Ireland because her mom is ill and that was her "wish". Day 3 of the vacation her dad has a heart attack and their trip is cut short.
She never complains, she is always smiling. She lives in her brothers apartment who works on a freighter most of the time and is able to use his car. The ex is finally having his paychecks garnished but she worries he will loose his job so she is trying to find work even though her youngest isn't in school full time. It is truely a Lifetime movie.
I think I would give her a necklace with the word "ok" on it. She knows that she is going to be ok no matter what because it can't get any worse than it is.

I am SO bad at keeping in contact with my friends, so I think my word would be connect. Although I think the word itself isn't as pretty as say breathe, it really is the meaning I want to get across.

My word is BELIEVE. My husband and I are ready to start a family together, but I have some medical issues that may prevent me from having a baby. I've taken the first step by doing some research and making an appt for a specialist who I'll see in Oct. I have to constantly remind myself to believe that everything happens for a reason.

I'm also starting a part-time business (while I work full-time) and I've finally begun to make the change of better eating and being more active. For me, doing just one of these things is a big deal- doing them all is daunting. I BELIEVE in myself that I can be successful in all my endeavors.

One of my most favorite quotes is "Everything Happens for a Reason, Just Believe". I think this applies to everything in life.

I've loved having a word to focus on this year. My word for 2007 has been 'thrive'.

I haven't picked a specific word for 2008, but I do have it narrowed down to a few...

It will either be --
authentic
inspire
radiant
or sparkle

I have two words, my first word would be "Dream" which means to me:
D -dedication
R -Responsiblity
E - Education
A - Attitude
M - Motivation.

My 2007 has brought many changes, I've quit smoking, since Jan (D & M). I've went back to school (E).

Another word that would keep me motivated would be "Intergity".

My word is "ESTABLISHED".
Psalm 112 speaks of the man (woman) who fears the Lord. In Psalm 112:8 the Bible tells us “His heart is established, he shall not be afraid…….”

We all strive to be better people, mothers, lovers, etc. I believe my word would be "inspiration". We all need to inspire other people and to be inspired.

Sonya said...

My word is "alleluia". I truly desire to live out our purpose, to praise our awesome God in every way, speech, action and spirit. Impossible to do however, without His help and this word also reminds me of that important fact :)

My word would be "write"

What a fabulous idea!!

Mine is "perspective." We've had a really rough year, between my beloved grandpa passing away, struggles with infertility followed by a miscarriage, job changes, moves, and on and on! I've been really working on thinking long-term and trying to see the whole picture, the way God does -- this has helped me a lot when everything is crazy.

my word would be simplify...there are many times daily when i feel i have too many irons in the fire, times when i need to step back and make my life more simple!

Thats awseome. I think my word would be patient. Because with a two year old and a five month old, it not something I always remember, and I could use one when me two year old is hitting my little one upside the head with a toy car.

My word would be "flexible". I have been working on allowing my self to break free from my schedule to allow more fun in my life!

Karyn said...

I want my word for 2008 to be "Remember". Remember to enjoy the little things in life. Remember to play with my children and have fun being silly. Remember to make time for a date with my husband. Remember to call a good friend. Remember to make time to snuggle the ones you love. Remember to sparkle for God. Remember that when I have a stressful moment, it's just a moment. Remember to smile at someone you pass on the street. To sum it up..."Remember" to enjoy life. Love you. xoxo

After a "homeless" summer camping out with my parents and my 3 children amidst a cross country move without my husband who began work in our new town in April-my word choice was easy. I knew back in January this year would require me to be "FLEXIBLE". I work every day to bend and twist to fit the needs of my family and somewhere in there finds moments to nourish self. Ever a challenge, I am happy to have a word to reflect on!

love your jewelry!

Every time I see Kristi's word for the year- stretch, I think that is my biggest problem. I am constantly stretching myself too thin. As a result my word for the year should be balance.

Kelly said...

Inspire!

That fits my mood best right now!

This really is such a beautiful way to remind yourself of the goal. Mine will be "Create".

Create joy, Create friendships, Create family traditions, Create your own Experience!

patsy said...

I have been thinking & thinking about a word for next year for weeks after reading about kristi's and others. I have finally came up with BALANCE just a few days before the contest began.
It has been a real struggle for me to find balance in my life, especially now that all my kids are in school. Who knew that would happen?
Balancing time with each of my children, time for my husband & I, finding time for spiritual rejuvination, etc. It is easy for me to get caught up in too many "good things" and difficult things. I hope to achieve more balance in my life by prioritizing & being aware at all times my quest to achieve balance.
This necklace is fantastic. I love all of your jewelry!

I read through a few of the comments and love everyone's words. My word for the year would be "remember". We have a good friend whose 18 year old son was murdered trying to break up a fight a year ago. Dealing with that loss has helped me remember to not take things for granted and to remember to be more patient, loving, and kind everyday.

That s a good way to start! My word would be "PATIENCE" because I am dealing with two completely different personality boys: gifted and high function autism.

I especially am being patient while my 5 yrs old autistic son continues to grow in learning and speaking more and more of each day (his average word 4-6 per sentence). Even he is only kindergarten and is in one mainstream class for Language Arts (trail for a couple of weeks), yet I have to learn to be patience that the time will tell.
